The Importance of Step 2 of the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People

How Will the Infrastructure Bill Help Business Owners?

Posted by Marcelo Bermudez

$1.2 trillion in federal spending in the next five years? How do you get your share?

  1. Understand where the funding is being spent:
  • $110 billion for roads and bridges – Construction and repair, transportation research at universities, funding for Puerto Rico’s highways, and “congestion relief” in American cities
  • $66 billion for railroads – Passenger rail system and freight rail safety upgrades
  • $65 billion for the power grid – Power lines, cables, clean energy
  • $65 billion for broadband – Rural areas and low-income communities.
  • $55 billion for water – Lead pipe replacement, chemical cleanup, clean drinking water
  • $50+ billion for cybersecurity and climate change.
  • $39 billion for public transit – Public transit system upgrades
  • $25 billion for airports – Major upgrades and expansions at U.S. airports
  • $21 billion for the environment – clean up superfund and brownfield sites
  • $17 billion for ports – Army Corps of Engineers for port infrastructure, truck emissions
  • $11 billion for safety. Highway, pedestrian, pipeline
  • $8 billion for western water infrastructure – Water treatment, storage, and reuse facilities.
  • $7.5 bill for electric vehicle charging stations
  • $7.5 billion for electric school buses
  1. Learn how to win government contracts (register with SAM – https://sam.gov/content/home) or network with the larger companies who will get the larger contracts and sub-contract work and products to you.
  2. Learn the general bid process – Here’s a free guide – https://www.smartsheet.com/construction-bidding

The Department of Transportation will allocate 20% of its federal contracts to small and disadvantaged businesses

The Minority Business Development Agency will help business owners become “contract ready” so when the opportunity comes to provide a service or product, they will be successful.
