My son, who is a person with #autism, never fails to ask deep questions while I drive him to college.
This morning, he asked, “What do you do when you think it isn’t going to be “Your Day?”
I noted there are things you can and cannot control.
I can’t control others, but I can control my attitude, behavior, and plans.
Yesterday was a great example.
- Several non-business-related interruptions.
- A leaking water supply line requiring my immediate attention, and
- A mom who was having a tough day with her dementia.
Because I have specific items I want to get done, I saw my day getting obliterated.
My first response was, “I’ll just work late.”
Instead, I went for a walk (after the repair, of course) to clear my mind.
While walking, I went into prayer and offered up some verses knowing the power they held to change my attitude that could have gone into depression or anger/disappointment.
With my mind refreshed, I changed my schedule/expectations, had lunch with my lovely wife, and finished up the day satisfied.
Plans and flexibility give you hope.
Don’t be a victim of the season or circumstance.
