Back in 2017 my wife and I bought a real fixer of a home.
It sat empty for three years so we bought it under market because we saw the potential in it.
It would allow us to do things we needed to do including finding a better neighborhood for our son, who is a person with autism, to flourish.
It has enough room to care for my elderly parents with dementia in a guest house we built. We host married/dating couples and single mothers with opportunities to learn which is also part of the reason we believe we have this home.
While I normally get up at 5am Monday-Friday, the weekends are not all that different because of the investment of time and labor we make to build the life we want. I’ve laid countless yards of concrete, stone, and pavers over the last few years with my own hands. My personal tool and equipment inventory has become respectable for any wannabe mason/plumber/electrician. I’m going to learn how to lay tile for my backyard deck and bathrooms very soon.
Investing, not spending.
I love my wife for numerous reasons, but mainly because we have the same perspective. As dirty and hard as the work can be, we are sowing seeds for the long-term to create a true legacy and show our kids how to be good stewards of their money and assets.
