This weekend one of our four dogs passed away.
Bella had kidney disease and it was a tough final month for her.
Her last day of behavior showed the end was coming quickly, and, unfortunately, aggressively.
My daughter, who wants to become a veterinarian, was suffering knowing Bella hadn’t eaten for days and was no longer accepting liquids or medication.
I wasn’t home when she passed, but my son, Aiden, a person with #autism, knew exactly what to do.
Bella’s final yelps were intense.
My son had his sister stay in the front living room with mom during Bella’s final moments in the back of the house.
Once Bella expired, my son quickly wrapped her in a favorite blanket and then covered her bed with another.
He then went on to share the news and hug his sister.
By the time I got home and planned Bella’s arrangements, my son was making positive, funny comments to get his sister to smile and even laugh in between tears and sobs.
What a gift it is to see your kids employing the skills you have been trying to instill (but wonder if they were listening or not).
Resilience creates leaders and encourages adaptability.
If you want to see the same in your family or business staff:
- set a positive example,
- face challenges confidently, and
- manage stress in a constructive manner.
You might now see the immediate result, but you will when it is necessary.
