I had to make a hard decision this weekend.
My mother, who has dementia, can no longer feed herself properly.
After months of adjusting to help keep her independence with bolstered utensils and adult ‘sippy cups,’
It was clear my mother has moved into the next stage of her life.
She needed more care/assistance.
She didn’t know to ask for help, but as her son and primary caretaker, I kept a watchful eye to ensure I was maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
As I fed her over the weekend, I thought about how asking for help is difficult.
It is humbling because you must admit you can’t do something or don’t know how.
You are worth it, though.
You are worthy of everything.
You can ask for help.
When you receive, it helps you to get to the next day so you can then help others.
If you’re stuck, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
When we give it activates the areas of the brain associated with pleasure, social connection, and trust.
Improve the human condition by giving back and it will return to you a thousand fold.
