#Cohousing offers a unique solution to solve #homelessness
Cohousing is a unique form of housing that brings people together to form a community.
It can provide a place to live for those experiencing homelessness and address underlying issues that contribute to homelessness such as mental health, employment, and addiction.
Two key benefits of Cohousing to reduce homelessness are:
- Community – In a cohousing community, residents can participate in group therapy sessions, and have access to counseling services. Cohousing communities can help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness.
- Employment – Cohousing communities often have shared spaces and facilities for workshops and training programs. Residents can help build a strong support network that can assist them in finding and keeping a job.
Cohousing differs from supportive housing, a housing solution offered to individuals with specific needs, such as those dealing with chronic homelessness or mental health issues.
Supportive housing provides additional services, such as counseling and case management, to help residents achieve stability and independence.
While supportive housing is a valuable resource for those in need, it can be more complex and costly to implement than Cohousing.
Conversely, Cohousing is a more self-governing model that allows residents a greater degree of autonomy.
This can be beneficial for those who have struggled with traditional forms of housing, as it allows them to take a more active role in their recovery and reintegration into society.
