The Best Work Divides the Audience – How Rick Rubin Unlocked a Cheat Code for Me

The Best Work Divides the Audience – How Rick Rubin Unlocked a Cheat Code for Me

RickRubin is making the rounds on the interview circuit for his new book: The Creative Act: A Way of Being.

His multi-Grammy-winning discography touches almost all genres. His talent adds value wherever he goes.

In an interview with economist, @TylerCowen, Rubin’s respectful and thoughtful responses unlocked something for me.

Rubin noted two reviews of the book were divided.

One loved his book. The other hated it.

“It made me feel good because one of the things I talk about in the book is that the best work divides the audience and that you want to make work that some people love and some people hate. If everybody thinks it’s just okay or pretty good, it’s not so interesting. If everybody likes something you make, you probably didn’t go far enough.”

This spoke to me as I have been writing about #Cohousing for the last few weeks on a daily basis.

I’ve also found a property that I’m analyzing to go under contract to build this product type.

My post “view” count decreased compared to some of the other #business and #leadership topics I cover.

Hearing Rubin’s reaction to the reviews made me feel like I am on the right path doing something I believe in and will serve stakeholders who want this product.

Are you going far enough to make the best work in what you are doing?

I write seven days a week to help business owners and real estate investors:

✅ Accelerate value,

✅ Become better leaders,

✅ Access capital
